This is my second autumn piece as I play with archetypal goddesses…

In Greek mythology Persephone was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus, and the queen/goddess of the underworld where she reigned as wife of Hades.

Holding the dichotomy of both these things she embodies both the goddess of death and the underworld, and of regrowth as the embodiment of spring and vegetation.

I have an affinity for these types of archetypal aspects as I also find within myself both those dark places, and light places, in other words I love the spring as much as the fall, both for the same reasons,  the beauty of both death and of regrowth…

This shawl contains both light and dark within, but also there are deep nods to the pomegranate seeds that Persephonie ate that essentially made her the goddess of the underworld for 6 months of the year…

I adore pomegranates for their deep colour and hundreds of seeds found within, as they are complex in both form and taste, kinda like many folks I know!

Not only will the person who makes this piece their own receive the shawl, but over the summer I made a complex dreaming and journey balm that I have placed within the metal container of a deep red pomegranate..

The ingredients are also as complex as this archetype, as I began with gathering local mugwort and slowly infusing it into almond oil. To this I added Poppy seed oil, Pomegranate seed oil, Bear fat. Roses, Blue lotus and a trace/homeopathic amount of dried Amanita Muscara, and Lavender essential oil…

The result is a calming balm that when used for journeying into the unseen realm supports that work, it is also good for dreaming and dream remembrance…

These pieces together create a beautiful combination for the winter ahead, as we cozy in, drink cups of tea, journal, journey and remember….
