Description
This wall hanging was created during a liminal time of flow and creativity upon returning home from a time of ancestral travel to Ireland.
One of the {many} magical places I visited was on the coast of Northern Ireland where I was completely taken by a huge swath of earth and soil that contained large quantities of Red and Black Ochre.
Interestingly enough I had already started a weaving before I left using black and red yarns that reminded me of earth ochre, so upon returning home this piece {which is now listed here as an altar cloth} was what started it all…
For this piece though, I wanted to show through my weaving the layers of black and red as I saw them while in Ireland on the land, and have included a few images here of that sacred place.
To the bottom I wanted to add natural earth beads that also contained the same essence of ochre and soil, and so you will find some amber beads, red clay beads from Africa and some beautiful black Tsi beads from Tibet.
The hanging measures 56″ long and is hung from a piece of twisted vine.
