Swan Song Sacred Cloak and necklace/Talisman set

Swan Song Sacred Cloak and necklace/Talisman set

In myth and folklore the swan has always held a place of reverence, mysticism and strength.

I have long loved the graceful nature of swans, as well as the vast amount of folkloric takes that accompany them in the form of swan women with cloaks of beautiful feathers that can be removed if they wish…

In folklore, the swan is often associated with the moon as the poetic nature of swans gliding gracefully on moon reflected water is so in keeping with the mytho-poetic nature of this bird, and the lunar nature of swans is in line with the beliefs that swans can transverse from both the mundane world as well as in the otherworld, and often they are seen as messengers of the spirit world, or from the ancestors, specifically if you should be so lucky to find a swan feather on your path!

This shawl and the two talismans I have made to accompany it, should the person who takes it home chooses one or both of these offerings were all created to hold the sacred nature of the swan.

The cloak was made using hand spun curly lock and wool and as such it contains a lot of texture and movement.

The two necklace talismans will each be sold separately as I when dipping into my collection I could not resist making just one.

The longer of the two was made using labradorite, as this is a sacred stone known to support those who transverse into the otherworlds and hold and protect them as well. This piece was paired with a large crescent moon to reflect the lunar nature of the swan and on either side are two beautiful full moon shell beads, continuing on in the lunar realm.

The second piece was made using small bone beads and holds a small but powerful swan goddess with bits of gold in her tail feathers and she is also held by small spiral shells that also hold the lunar energies of the moon.
