Surma-Dani Collyrium Khol Box Amulet

I have had these vintage, and hard to get these days, khol boxes with a small Mirror on one side, my imagination immediately went to protection amulets that can store secrets inside!
These small amulets are empty which makes them perfect for storing sacred scents or rilled up intention prayers or any kind of magic you can imagine.
The mirror serves as a form of protection as it is said that if any malign energy should see itself it becomes scared away, thus mirrors are perfect for wearing as protections amukets.
I have strung this one with more magic as I dug around in my treasure box of hoarded jewels and found old old Tibetan meditation beads studded with coral and some small pieces of vintage coral, which carries its own sacred story as well as protective properties…
Lets begin:
Lapis Lazuli has an ancient history linked back to ancient Egypt where it was sought after and prized by royalty because of its deep rich blue colour veined with gold.
It has been ground down and used as paint from some of the worlds most famous painters as well as buddhist monks who favour it for its spiritual connections to the higher self.
As a stone of truth, Lapis encourages honesty of the spirit, and in the spoken and written word. Wear it for all forms of deep communication. It is also a stone of friendship and brings harmony to relationships.

On this piece there are four pieces of old coral which if you look closely you can tell which ones these are. The rest of the red beads are either glass, or resin.
Now to the story about coral and why it is a powerful thing to place on any kind of protective amulet, because it has everything to do with Medusa!
So the story goes that when Perseus cut off Medusa’s head he carried it over the sea and the blood from her head landed on the ocean floor and this is how coral was made. Coral has many ancient associations with luck, protection and even folk medicine associated with grinding it up and using it to cure illnesses.
