Description
Stones and Bones:
This newest piece is inspired by standing stones and ancient places, long stretches of beach stones and the many shades of beautiful grey, white and black that exist within..
Its old bones bleached dry and white by the sun, and collected reverently by bone collectors who feel the sacredness of life through the memories of the ancient stones and bones..
–
I wanted to create a feeling of texture with the different wool I both hand spun and used in this piece, weaving in a small amount of yellow ochre resembling veining and of a wee bit of curly goat hair locks that look like bits of yellowed moss dripping down.
–
The bones are represented in the whites threaded and woven through the stones, and as I wove I sat with many memories of beach-combing and coming across many different bones on the seaside. Bones of small birds, sea mammals and the such, dry and white and scattered amongst the stones and seashells of the beach.
–
The shawl itself was made using a beautiful mottled grey Irish wool that I brought back from my travels there and designed to be narrow enough and long enough to wrap around as a large cozy scarf, that can easily become a shawl wrapped around the sounders for warmth.
–
I wanted to show through colour the variations of grey and white, of bits of yellowing moss and seashells with a little bit of magic thrown in.
This can be worn as a giant wooly scarf for cold days or wrapped around you inside for an extra layer of warmth and is deliberately less wide then my typical shawl for this reason.
The length is: 19″ and the width is:99″ including the tassels.
