Description
This altar piece/shoulder stole was created during a liminal time of flow and creativity upon returning home from a time of ancestral travel to Ireland.
One of the {many} magical places I visited was on the coast of Northern Ireland where I was completely taken by a huge swath of earth and soil that contained large quantities of Red and Black Ochre.
Interestingly enough I had already started a weaving before I left using black and red yarns that reminded me of earth ochre, so upon returning home this piece was what started it all…
After I finished it and was taking photos I swung it over my shoulder and it sat so perfectly, I thought oh wow this could easily also be a shoulder stole or even a small accent piece if placed over both shoulders, which I love because I think everything sacred should also be multi-purpose!
I am including along with this piece a small vial of Red ochre that I have gathered on my travels along with a recipe for turning it into watercolour paint.
The length of this piece is 59″ long not including the tassels.
