Here in the Pacific Northwest we are abundant with Arbutus trees also known as Madrone trees, and which from the first moment I saw one I was fascinated by the way the bark peels to reveal the smooth orangey hues below, which can oftentimes range from bright green to white with so many variants below..

We have so many Arbutus trees here that when I found a small twisty branch on the ground I was inspired to weave a wall hanging dedicated to the beautiful Arbutus tree, and to hang it on the branch.
Later I was delighted to find a big button carved out of Arbutus at our local farmers market and I must say it sits perfectly on this piece adding to the beauty..

In First Nations communities it’s said that the Arbutus is the tree of knowledge because it knows how to find the sun, always twisting and turning with the movement of it.

It’s also known as a tree of resilience, and I can see why as these trees are most often found growing on the side of cliffs and in areas where other trees do not tent to thrive.
