Weave An Ancestral Altar Cloth

October 3rd and 4th 2026

Salt Spring Island B.C

Are you someone who prefers to make your own sacred objects rather than buying them in a store?

Do you love the imperfect beauty of handmade items, especially  those made by your own hand?

This two day immersive workshop may be calling to you then as we will dive deeply into the craft of weaving and the magic of textiles as women have been doing for centuries.

We will also be journeying into the unseen realms to meet with a loving ancestor so we can gather up  sacred information that will be placed into our altar cloths.

In this two day workshop we will gather together in circle and community. Surrounded by the forest, and ponds and snugged in tight within the temple space on Neptune farm on Salt Spring Island.

Together we will journey to our compassionate ancestors and call on them for guidance and to direct our hands as we weave magic into altar cloths that will honor them in our daily spiritual practices.

Using handspun yarns and fibers with an eye for both colour and texture we will weave and sing ancestral honoring songs.

As we craft our altar cloths we will also create a sacred altar as a container for our time together honoring the depth that altars bring us when we create them with intention.

Altars are sacred places where we can go to sit and be still with our thoughts and in the case of an ancestral altar, we can sit and be with our ancestors.

This is an experiential workshop with a focus on the craft itself, and not focused on the educational in's and out's of warping a loom. As such each loom will come pre-warped so that we can focus on the sacred task at hand.

Testimonials:

As an animist hearth-witch, I’ve been working with altars and the unseen realms for many years. Weaving has long called to me as an ancestral practice, so I jumped at the chance to take this workshop with Nikiah Seeds.

I came away with a stunning altar cloth woven by my own hands, guided by my well-seated ancestors and by Nikiah’s skillful, wise, kind, and intentional space-holding. From the curated collection of yarns, to the thoughtful arrangement of altars around the room, to the music and stories shared about ancient weaving lore, every detail was infused with care.

The shared rituals and sacred storytelling created a deep sense of being held — not only by the ancestors, but by a generous matriarch ready to share her wisdom in community. This workshop was more than a crafting experience; it was a collective rite of remembrance, a weaving of lineage, and a powerful act of devotion for which I am deeply grateful.

With deep appreciation,

Kirsten
